Catherine Rose Chiara
Catherine Rose Chiara began painting in 1993. She was Living in Southern California at the time attending Orange Coast College in Costa Mesa, California for graphic design and illustration. When a teacher told her she had a flair for painting she decided to focus on that discipline. She developed her own style through practice.
She lives in Mandeville, Louisiana. Catherine is sacristan at her church and shares her gift of painting by creating Praying & Painting sessions with parishioners. She also teaches religion to young children. Catherine is the youngest of four daughters. She is the only one of her sisters who returned to her Cajun roots on her mother's side after many years in the Midwest.
Her first major sale was to McGraw Hill for their corporate art collection in New York City. She has created many series in various styles. Gardens of Mt. Adams is one of many series.
Pixelism
Catherine Rose Chiara began painting Pixelism in 2005. She was in her studio in Northside in Cincinnati, Ohio. She had a half inch flat brush in her hand and a blank canvas. She dipped her brush in some oil paint and made a square brush stroke. Next to that she made another brushstroke. She began using color to play against each other. She wanted to see how straight she could get a line of brushstroke without any tools to aid her. This became a 7 year quest to fill many canvases with half inch brushstrokes. Sometimes she imagined an image in her head and painted. Sometimes she would look at images and make a painting. Sometimes abstract images and ideas were created from brushstrokes and color.
Collages
Catherine Rose Chiara was inspired to create collages in March of 2023 when she decided to visit the Holy Land and needed to raise the funds to travel. She created over 60 Love Letter Paper Collages. She sold all of them and was able to travel.
